James

I’ve been a runner for many years, training weekly and taking part in primarily 10k races and half marathons. It’s been my desire for many years to run the London Marathon and have applied and been unsuccessful in the ballot multiple times.

At the end of last year, after another unsuccessful ballot I decided that enough was enough and it was time to run “The Race”!  I started looking at various charities to run for, having raised funds in the past for Dorothy House and the Stroke Association. A friend was over just before Christmas and she mentioned that Vision West of England had a place available and that’s how this particular journey began!

I was surprised to hear how most of the support for blind and partially sighted people across the UK is provided  directly through local charities like Vision West of England and Wiltshire Sight.  Having seen the signs for Wiltshire Sight multiple times around Devizes, I felt strongly that running for this charity would support a cause that is making a real difference to local people.

Currently all of my training is focussed on the big day in London in April.  I’m used to running at least twice a week and also trying to fit in a bike ride and hopefully a swim but this is often a challenge with my job and the frequent nights spent away. However, I’m following a plan and am managing to run 4 times a week currently clocking up over 30 miles in total. That figure is climbing by at least 2 miles a week, and my aim is to be running 40 miles a week 2 weeks before the main event.

Please support me and the amazing work delivered by Vision West of England by clicking the link to my Virgin Money Giving page and help to cheer me on and make a difference to blind and partially sighted people in our area.
