“I've learnt a huge amount about how sight loss can change your life, but I did not realise how volunteering would add an extra dimension to my own life. I’ve loved every minute!”

We rely on the help and dedication of volunteers to support the wide range of services that we provide, and we recognise the huge contribution our volunteers make to the effectiveness of our organisation.

Volunteer roles cover a range of activities from administration to working directly with service users who are visually impaired.  Whether you can commit a couple of hours a month or a day a week, there is something to suit everyone, wherever you live, and whatever your age and experience.

We have listed some of the roles we are seeking below, but if you would like to have an informal chat about possible opportunities which might be right for you, please call us on 0117 322 4885 or email [email protected]

Alternatively, fill in the form at the bottom of this page and we will contact you.

Current vacancies include:

Event Supporters

VWE Stand at Yate Info Day

We are looking for organised, outgoing individuals to help make our events a success. We run a variety of events, from information days, drop-in sessions, sporting activities to fundraising events, helping us to support people out in the community, to raise funds, and to increase awareness of our services.  This is a rewarding opportunity to really make a difference and provide front-line support.

Social Group Facilitators

We are looking for friendly, outgoing individuals to support our social groups across the region, whether this be supporting existing groups or helping to set up new ones. These groups provide an opportunity for blind and partially sighted people to engage in the community, to share experiences and information, and to try out new activities or sports.

Office Assistants

We are always seeking organised individuals to provide support with a range of tasks in both our Bristol and Devizes offices. Tasks could include maintaining our resource centres and information leaflets, general research, helping keep our information systems up-to-date, helping with mailings to clients, as well as answering telephone calls and supporting staff with a visual impairment.

Fundraising Assistants

Collection boxes

As a small charity we rely on the generosity of our supporters and the local community. Every penny raised really does make a difference to the services we provide. We are looking for motivated and flexible individuals to support a range of fundraising initiatives, from managing our collection boxes or running a stall, to researching funding opportunities and writing applications. A great opportunity to gain some real insight into the world of fundraising!

Volunteer Drivers

Our aim is to ensure that people living with sight loss across the region can lead active and fulfilled lives. Our volunteer drivers provide a friendly, familiar face and help our clients get out and about in their community to attend events and social activities. If you are friendly, reliable and have a clean driving licence and are happy to use your car to help others get out and about, then this is the opportunity for you.

Befrienders

Clients enjoying social time together

We are looking for friendly, understanding individuals to provide crucial social interaction for our clients. By popping in once a week or fortnight, a befriender can make a huge difference to the life of someone who is isolated and living alone. A visit could be a chat and a cup of tea, helping out with odd jobs around the home, or helping someone get out and about in the local area.

Social Media and Marketing Assistants

We are looking for creative and enthusiastic people to support our small and friendly team in raising our profile within the local community. If you are looking for experience in marketing, or in creating and managing social media content and streams and engaging online communities, this could be the perfect opportunity.

“My confidence was quite low before I started helping in the office, but in no time at all, I had refreshed old skills and my confidence was restored. I have now returned to work with renewed confidence and having made some new friends along the way!”
